Unveiling Iron Road: A Literary Journey in the Heart of Australia’s North West
Last week, I drove 1,600 km from Perth to Karratha in the North West of Western Australia for the launch of my recently released book, Iron Road. Given that Roebourne and Cossack, the first towns settled by Europeans in the North West in 1863, serve as the setting for my book, it made sense to do the hard yards and hold the launch there. Although Roebourne and Cossack were unavailable for the launch, the City of Karratha graciously offered their main library for the event.
I am grateful for Katie Maddison, the local history librarian, whose efforts in curating a collection of historical memorabilia, including numerous period photographs, have been invaluable. Katie organized the event by securing the venue, marketing and advertising on social media, and providing snacks and drinks for attendees. The evening was well received, and I was thrilled to sell copies of my books as a bonus.
I also appreciate the support of the Karratha tourist bureau and the Karratha newsagent in promoting my book by selling copies in their stores. Given that much of what I have written about has been lost over time, I am extremely happy that this book is now available for locals to read. Time will tell!
